November 11

We sailed all night in a nice 12-14k breeze with a full main and a partially rolled up genoa. Sailing on a close reach we were able to maintain 7 or 8k the entire night. This morning we have 12-14k and are making an easy 7.5k right now with 13k wind from the ENE. When it hits 15 we speed up to about 8.5k and sometimes 9k. Not bad at all. Our average speed for the last 130 miles (since yesterday at 1pm, it is now 7:30am) was 7.4k, the day before it was 6.8k for the prev. 24hr period. We have 750 miles to go to Opua, New Zealand.

Nothing much happened today. We sailed through the day in a nice 13-15k wind from the ESE making 6-8k over ground. The wind was a little South of East and has forced us to sail on a closer reach. It is now 7pm (0700 UTC) and we are still sailing on a close reach with the wind about 50 degrees off the bow. The seas are moderate with a 4-6ft swell and local wind shop on top. We are still on a course of 272M and have app. 670 miles to go to Opua. It is looking like we will arrive early on the morning of Saturday the 19th (sat. Nov. 18th UTC). We may decide, however, to push on through directly to Tauranga in which case we will arrive there on Sunday morning.
