June 24
The wind has built during the night and we have 15-20k from the ESE
now. We were making 7.5k when it began to build again so we rolled up
the genoa completely and are now sailing under main alone. It is now
3am and we have only 18nm to the Mele Harbor entrance at Pango Pt. and
we must slow down again to allow a daytime arrival. Sunrise is at
6:15am today and we should have a lightening sky beginning at about
5:30am so I want to arrive off the point no earlier then 6am.
At 6:30am we entered the harbor and by 7am we were anchored in the
quarantine area. Even though we arrived in Vanuatu via Tanna, which is
a legal port of entry, we were unable to connect with the Customs
officials while there. So, we are still not cleared in and must go
through that process today, here in Vila.
The sky is mostly sunny and the temperature is already hotter then the
hottest day in New Caledonia, and its only 7:30am! We are finally in
the tropics.
